Archeologists have unearthed the oldest wine-making facility ever found, using biochemical techniques to identify a dry red vintage made about 6,000 years ago in what is now southern.

Leading this edition of UCLA News Week, scholar Gregory Areshian discusses his team’s discovery of the oldest complete wine production facility. The site in Armenia dates from about 4100 BC and predates the earliest comparable find by a thousand years.

The wine residue, including withered grape vines and the remains of pressed grapes, was discovered in the same mysterious Armenian cave complex where an ancient leather shoe was found recently.
