Doggerland al descubierto

Doggerland, el 'mundo sumergido', fue el corazón de Europa; abarcó Escocia, Dinamarca y Canal de la Mancha.

El equipo de investigadores, encabezado por el doctor en geofísica Richard Bates del Departamento de Ciencias Terrestres de St. Andrews, logró recuperar objetos y artefactos de ese pasado, que ahora forman parte de una muestra en la Royal Society de Londres titulada "Drowned Landscapes" (Paisajes Sumergidos).

Entre las piezas halladas hay puntas de lanza utilizadas por humanos, vasijas de barro y huesos de animales terrestres. También se halló polen, microfauna y microflora, que ayudaron a los expertos a identificar qué tipo de plantas y animales poblaron esas tierras.

Doggerland was an area between Northern Scotland, Denmark and the Channel Islands.
It was believed to have been home to tens of thousands of people before it disappeared underwater.
Now its history has been pieced together by artefacts recovered from the seabed and displayed in London.
The 15-year-project has involved St Andrews, Dundee and Aberdeen universities.

The results are on display at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition in London until 8 July.
