Celebrations marking 150 years of prehistoric discovery concludes


The two day long programme dedicated to Robert Bruce Foote at Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya celebrating the 150th year of discovery of first Palaeolithic tool found in India concluded today with lecture by Emeritus Professor Dr K Paddayya.

The programme today started with workshop on Prehistoric tools making, Rockart and mock trench organised by Dr Shanti Pappu, Professor, Decaan College, Pune and Dr Kumar Akhilesh (Director of Sharma Centre for Heritage Education.

Later an exhibition titled “Foote-Prints” was inaugurated at Rockart Centre, IGRMS  by Mr. SB Ota (Director, IGRMS), Dr. KK Chakravarty, (IAS, Chairman, Lalit Kala Akademi New Delhi), Prof K. Paddayya, renowned archaeologist Prof. KC Malhotra.

In his lecture Prof. K Paddayya, former director, Deccan College Pune delivered a lecture titled as “Prelude to History: The Romance of the discovery of India’s Prehistoric Past”, where he gave examples of some non-archaeologists to made significant contribution in the field of archaeology. The museum lecture popular lecture was chaired by Dr. KK Chakravarty, IAS, Chairman, Lalit Kala Akademi New Delhi and former director of Manav Sangrahalaya.
