Excavations at the prehistoric hunting site of Vretsia-Rhoudias in the
Troodos Mountains have confirmed the importance of the Epipalaeolithic
campsite with regards to Cyprus’ early prehistory, the Department of
Antiquities said yesterday.
It still remains unclear whether the site represents a distinct version
of the inland Aceramic Neolithic A or another older tradition on the
island. But further studies, particularly of the 3000 or so tools found
on site, are likely to shed light on the early cultural processes that
occurred in the wider area of the Middle East.
The archaeological investigations were conducted by the Department of
History and Archaeology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
after a year’s interruption.
The project was carried out over 12 days in November 2013 [...] incyprus.philenews.com/ (B&W3)
